Senior Structural Engineer

Our client is an established company who is a leader in the design and manufacture of temporary roofs, beams and safety products for the support, access and weather protection industries.

They trade in over 100 countries and are leading designers, manufacturers and suppliers of mechanical and non-mechanical construction equipment and have a worldwide reputation for innovation, quality and service, with a group turnover of €3.5B. They are seeking ambitious, self-motivated and talented staff to enable its various products and technical services to be developed, distributed and supported globally.

Our client is passionate about providing innovative and progressive structural engineering solutions for products and project services. They are engaged in a diverse portfolio of projects that include industrial, nuclear power, rail, aircraft, entertainment, commercial, retail and high-end residential projects. As a market leader in modular steel, structural aluminium and weather protection systems pride themselves on pragmatism, innovation and excellence in the products and structural solutions we provide.

Their varied work will enable progression to Chartered or Incorporated status if not already obtained and the successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of product and project development from conception to completion. They offer sponsorship and mentoring and day to day advice is available from existing CEng MICE qualified staff.

At present they run various Autodesk suites for project and product drawings, manufacturing, modelling and animation work. We utilise Microsoft Office 365 and SharePoint for general administration and file management, Graitec packages including Advanced Design and Super Stress for structural analyses. Our designs are undertaken to recognised International and EN standards.

The role requires a hands-on approach and, working with a small team you will take the technical lead in the design process and ensure the designs are completed accurately and are documented appropriately. Our project designs are mainly quick turnaround temporary works schemes, so you must be able to work to deadlines and under pressure. Our product designs require capacity analyses and/or the organisation of testing, formulation of user data and documentation.

Ideally you will have experience in structural steel or aluminium systems, non-mechanical construction equipment, a knowledge of the construction industry, commercial awareness and an ability to communicate at all levels. You will be required to take control of technical and compliance issues relating to our portfolio of products, regulate the development of new products within our product development framework, undertake, oversee and technically control project designs. You will be expected to keep up to date with British and EN standards and industry requirements, control in-house technical specifications for products, liaise with group companies, suppliers, clients and checking authorities.

This position will require occasional travel for attendance at group conferences, meetings with suppliers and clients and site visits which may be in the UK or overseas.

You will be ambitious, have the ability to direct and advise a small team of technicians, a BEng / MEng in Civil / Structural Engineering, strong organisational skills and an ability to recognise and work to deadlines. Ideally you will have or be working towards membership of a professional institution, Structural or Civils with CEng status or similar. However, candidates with exceptional experience will also be considered.
