James Newbury Appointments

A dynamic bespoke and independently run agency, providing Recruitment Solutions to Clients and Candidates since 1998.

Our History

Penny, Lincolnshire born lass, moved to Hertfordshire in 1995 where her roots are now firmly laid! Penny started her career in recruitment in 1998, working for at that time, the leading UK recruitment agency, Select Appointments. Penny worked for the Luton, Beds office, where her passion for great customer care and doing recruitment Reassuringly Well was born… and also where she met Caroline, the co-founder of James Newbury Appointments.

Caroline, a Luton lass with a few stays out of the UK in Ireland and Australia, all the time doing recruitment and always returning to her Luton roots, also started in recruitment in 1998. Having graduated in Business Studies before spending 7 successful years in the motor trade, Caroline found her true career vocation – recruitment, where she has remained ever since!

Penny and Caroline worked together, and for 10 consecutive years were honoured to be the top performing office in the UK (from over 227), as well as best consultants – all built on the absolute solid foundations of exceptional customer care and really investing time in knowing our clients and candidates.

Penny changed career path to the Financial Services sector for 5 years, however, in June 2015 the founders reunited and James Newbury Appointments was born!

Penny missed recruitment and was looking to return to the fold. Having liaised with a number of agencies about this, she noticed a marked difference in customer service, leading to a discussion of how the recruitment process had changed; it was far more systems led and limited time was invested on getting to know the individual in order to be able to know and thus, match correctly; it was, ‘send your cv, let’s Skype, call’ etc – there was limited ‘getting to know you’ interaction.

Both founders are passionate about people and recruitment, investing time in getting to know and understand them along with their skill sets and motivators, needs and requirements, likes and dislikes – all key to getting the right fit for the employer / employee relationship. So, with this passion for people and recruitment, along with being driven by the mantra Recruitment Done Reassuringly Well, James Newbury Appointments was established in August 2015: ‘James’, as a tribute to Penny’s late dad and Caroline’s grandad, and ‘Newbury’ being the name of the office JNA was founded.
